There are different kind of stock market programs.
Unfortunately there are lots of people who buy stock market programs in the first category. By looking around at this site, you can see a lot of logical arguments for why you're wasting your time on this kind of nonsense.
You'll notice software that will plot a stock's price versus time and then try to extract a "trend" for that stock. This is pathetic. If you analyzed the entire data from NASDAQ, say from a "level 2" feed, so you're getting every trade, and gigabytes of information a day, you'll see that the stock market data is completely random on a time scale of a second or longer. You have more hope of predicting the time of day that the next earthquake will hit LA than whether the stock price of Intel will be higher or lower a minute from now.
It's shameful that companies prey on the ignorance and vanity of individual stock investors by selling software purporting to predict trends, or pick the 50 hottest stocks. Wall Street firms have technology which makes this kind of software look like an ant in comparison with a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Now the second kind of stock market programs can be useful. In fact on this site you can download software that's free with registration that will help educate you to how to minimize risks in investing.
